Our Story
We met on Hinge at the beginning of 2021, when the world was deep in the throes of the COVID pandemic. Our first date was outdoors on a restaurant patio in the midst of a Denver snowstorm. We figured there was no reason to risk getting sick before we knew if we actually liked each other. Thankfully we hit it off, and the next several months were spent sharing our love for music, poached eggs, charades, and youtube vine compilations—the only remaining relics of the treasured but long-dead art form.
After one year long-distance and three years living together in Seattle, we found ourselves back in Denver in the summer of 2025. An unusually warm fall and winter followed, and on a beautiful and sunny February afternoon, Travis recreated our first date. It was much nicer weather to enjoy on the patio than when we met, and we thought back to all the things that had changed since that snowy night. To name just a few, we both have different hair and new tattoos, Travis has developed a penchant for Dvořák and homemade mac and cheese, and Madeleine has built up a respectable knowledge of whiskey and a love for crab and scallops. We’ve learned to swing dance and are coming up on two years of playing a D&D campaign with some of our dear friends. We’ve played in different bands, recorded music together, learned to fold dumplings and make a proper velouté.
Still, the year was 2021 and there was plenty of upheaval everywhere we turned. Travis was headed for Seattle, while Madeleine was still settling into life in Denver. So much about our lives and the world was in a state of flux, but in the midst of it all we decided there was one thing we were set on: being together.
Since then we’ve learned and grown so much, and we’ve been lucky enough to stand by each other’s side through it all. Every road trip, plane flight, late-night Zoom call, and cross-country move has been more than worth it—they’ve been part of the amazing adventure that is loving one another.
The night of reminiscing ended at the house of Madeleine’s sister, where Travis got down on one knee amidst flowers, music, candles, and many smiles and tears.
We know there are plenty more smiles and happy tears to come at our wedding this April, and we can’t wait to share them with you.
